Remember about 6 months ago when RIM announced they’d be launching their own tablet? They said that although they didn’t have a fixed release date (or price), it would launch in early 2011. As 2011 approached, we wondered if they would give us an exact release date. They didn’t.
We were all expecting it to be released around February. After it wasn’t, people started getting anxious, seeing that the other tablet competitors were stepping up their game. Then the iPad 2 rumor mill went crazy, and we thought there was no way the PlayBook would succeed if it didn’t launch now.
By the iPad 2 keynote announcement, the PlayBook still hadn’t launched, and we didn’t even have a date. So much for the BlackBerry tablet.
But now, according to these slides from Staples, the PlayBook will launch around April 17th/18th, which is considerably far, far away, especially with the iPad 2 having been launched just yesterday.
This first slide states that this PlayBook ad date is the 17th of April.
The second slide shows a countdown sign/ad, and if you do the math, 33 days from March 15th is about April 18th.
All I can say right now is, good luck RIM. You’ll need it.
